ABOUT DAN

Dan Butts grew up on the mean streets of Laguna Beach, where as a youth, he suffered under the harsh tutelage of the various sculptors and painters of his hometown. After graduating from Boston University’s film program, he returned to Southern California and began his journey from art dog to production designer.

Some of the projects he designed include the new Apple TV children’s series Hello Jack, the last two seasons of Arrested Development, Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday film, as well as hundreds of commercials.

He’s been nominated for the Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design for HBO’s Flight of the Conchords, Tracey Ullman’s State of the Union and Arrested Development.

He has worked in Chicago, Austin, Italy, New York, France, Hawaii, Fiji, and the many glorious subdivisions of Altadena.

He thrives on the challenges of collaboratively creating exciting new environments with each job.
